iGaming supplier giant Games Global has marked a major milestone in its North American growth strategy by securing a license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). The licensing enables the provider to deliver its content portfolio to players across Canada’s newly regulated Alberta province.
Regulatory Architecture and Compliance Landscape
Alberta officially opened its commercial regulated iGaming framework on July 13, 2026, putting an end to offshore dominance where approximately 70 percent of online wagering previously took place on unregulated platforms. Regulatory oversight is split between two governing entities: the AGLC, which manages registration, licensing, technical standards, and ongoing compliance, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), which oversees commercial agreements and market execution. Compliance for suppliers and operators is dictated by the Standards and Requirements for Internet Gaming (SRIG), requiring strict alignment with FINTRAC Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) standards, data protection under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and certified Random Number Generator (RNG) testing.
Taxation and Social Responsibility Allocation
Alberta’s framework integrates dedicated, pre-tax community and social responsibility allocations, where 20 percent of net revenues flow into the General Revenue Fund for public services. Additionally, 3 percent of Gross Gaming Revenue is earmarked for social initiatives, with 2 percent supporting First Nations communities and 1 percent dedicated to gambling addiction research and mental health programs. In accordance with AGLC directives, all grey market operations must cease unregulated activities within the province by October 13, 2026. At launch, 28 operators received approval, including major international brands alongside regional platforms.
Content Portfolio and Commercial Positioning
Under the new license, Alberta players gain access to Games Global’s flagship titles, including Gold Blitz™, 12 Masks of Fire™, and Fishin’ Pots of Gold™. The entry also includes distribution of premium live casino titles through its exclusive partner, OnAir Entertainment™. Mark MacCombie, Chief Commercial Officer at Games Global, emphasized that North America remains a key strategic focus for the company, stating that Alberta offers an exciting opportunity to build on the momentum already established in Ontario. Following its success in Ontario, Games Global’s entry into Alberta addresses a market where casino gaming historically yields higher engagement than sports betting, positioning the company as a core content partner within Western Canada's evolving gaming ecosystem.
