Armenia is introducing new restrictions on the use of gambling-related terminology by companies that do not hold the necessary gambling licence.

The new rules will take effect on 8 February 2027 and will prevent unlicensed businesses from using terms associated with gambling activities, including “gambling,” “casino,” “gaming hall,” “online gambling,” “lottery,” and “bookmaking activities.”

The restrictions, announced by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, will also cover terms such as “betting office” and “totalizator,” along with their derivatives and translations into other languages.

The measure goes beyond companies’ registered names. Businesses without an appropriate licence will also be prohibited from incorporating gambling-related terminology into their trade names, trademarks, website names and physical signs.

Companies found violating the requirements could face a fine of AMD 500,000 (around $1,400) for each violation. The State Revenue Committee has advised businesses to review their existing names and branding ahead of the deadline and make any required changes.

The new rules form part of a wider regulatory effort aimed at addressing unlicensed gambling activity in Armenia. From 8 February 2027, authorities are also expected to reinforce measures for blocking the websites of illegal gambling operators through telecommunications providers.

Additional restrictions are also planned for the advertising of unlicensed online casinos and lotteries, further expanding the measures targeting operators and businesses operating outside Armenia’s licensing framework.
