Zupee parent CashGrail expands beyond gaming

CashGrail Private Limited, the parent company of online gaming platform Zupee, is expanding its digital footprint with the launch of SuperLearn, a short-form learning and skill development app. The move marks another step in CashGrail’s strategy to diversify beyond gaming as it targets India’s rapidly growing micro-learning and short-video content market.

The expansion comes after the Indian government banned real money gaming formats under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act (PROGA), 2025.

SuperLearn targets short-form learning demand

According to Storybord18, SuperLearn is positioned as a micro-learning app designed around short, easy-to-consume video lessons. The platform allows users to discover, watch and learn through brief video modules across a wide range of categories. These include personal finance, health and wellness, government services, career skills, online earning methods, social media growth and practical life knowledge.

According to sources familiar with the development, SuperLearn is currently in a pilot phase. Users can access the app’s educational content library for a nominal fee of ₹1 for one day. During this period, users can explore multiple learning libraries such as stock market basics, civil services preparation and English language learning.

The app focuses on delivering content in simple Hindi to reach users across non-metro and regional markets. It is aimed at users who prefer learning in short bursts rather than long-form courses.

What the law covers

The Law defines an “online money game” as any game, whether based on skill, chance or both, where users pay fees, deposit money or put up stakes with the expectation of monetary returns. The definition excludes esports.

Key provisions include:

  • A complete ban on offering or advertising online money games.

  • A maximum jail term of three years or a fine of up to $1.1 million for operators.

  • Up to two years in prison or a fine of $60,000 for advertisers.
  • The same penalties for banks or financial institutions that facilitate payments for banned games.
  • At the same time, the legislation encourages the growth of esports and online social games.

Part of a wider diversification strategy

The launch of SuperLearn comes as CashGrail continues to expand beyond online gaming. In recent months, the company entered the global astrology market with the launch of Neo Astro. The app offers services such as Kundli readings, daily horoscopes, marriage compatibility checks and guidance related to career, health and wealth. Neo Astro provides users with a free five-minute consultation with an astrologer at sign-up.

Earlier this month, Zupee acquired Australian AI startup Nucanon. The acquisition is aimed at building an AI-powered interactive storytelling business. The company has also launched Zupee Studio, a short-form video platform offering one to three minute mini-episodes across genres such as romance, drama, thriller and comedy. Zupee Studio is targeted at mobile-first users in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Focus on free-to-play and subscriptions

Following regulatory action and the ban on certain real-money gaming formats, Zupee has increased its focus on free-to-play games. Its portfolio includes titles such as Ludo Supreme, Ludo Turbo, Snakes & Ladders and Trump Card Mania.

To strengthen user engagement, the company introduced Zupee Plus, a paid subscription service. The offering provides benefits such as ad-free gaming, unlimited content access, early access to new titles and premium in-app features.

Zupee has also undergone restructuring in the recent past, laying off around 170 employees, nearly 30 percent of its workforce. The company said it offered career support measures, including priority re-hiring opportunities and assistance in finding roles across the industry.
