Trond Bentestuen steps into the role as CEO of Norsk Tipping
Trond Bentestuen has officially stepped into the role of CEO of Norsk Tipping. The appointment comes after several months of operational and reputational pressure on the operator.
In a LinkedIn post, Sylvia Kristin Brustad, Board Chair at Norsk Tipping, stated: ‘’We look forward to working together on a very important societal mission and are very pleased to have Trond on board as captain of the team, with his competence, experience and personal qualifications. ‘’
Bentestuen previously served as CEO of Norwegian home improvement retailer Maxbo and has also held the position of CEO at grocery chain Rema 1000.
The leadership change follows the resignation of former CEO Tonje Sagstuen in 2025 after issues emerged in Norsk Tipping’s Eurojackpot system, with Vegard Strand serving as acting CEO in the meantime.
Brustad also thanked Strand, noting that he took on responsibility during a challenging period for Norsk Tipping and that the operator is now in a very different position.
Norsk Rikstoto faces investigation after 23,716 unpaid bets trigger regulatory concerns
The state-owned horseracing operator Norsk Rikstoto has been placed under formal investigation after a system failure allowed 23,716 bets from 5,158 to be processed without payment, prompting action from the Norwegian Gaming Authority.
The regulator noted that payment is a fundamental requirement for gambling and stated that free bets or credit betting are not permitted under Norwegian law. It is now assessing whether the incident constitutes a breach of the Gambling Act.
As part of its review, the authority has asked Norsk Rikstoto to provide full details on the total number of customers and wagers placed during the affected period.
Concerns have also been raised over whether winnings were correctly calculated given the system failure, highlighting the need for greater transparency from the operator.
Norsk Rikstoto reported a total betting turnover of NOK 3.2bn ($332.2m) in 2025, up 3.6% compared with the previous year. The number of active customers increased by 3.0% to just under 180,000.
